Tip Sheet for Fishing With Cut Bait

>Keep bait frozen until you are ready to fish.  Thaw the bait completely before inserting it into the teaser.

An easy way to do this is before leaving the dock put some lake water into a bucket, open the pack of bait and put the bait in the water.  By the time you are ready to set lines it should be thawed and ready to use.

>While fishing put the remaining bait and the water from the pack of bait in a container on ice in your cooler to keep it cold.

>The strips are cut to fit in Rhys Davis Teasers.  Once you have the bait inserted in the teaser put the toothpick through the bait.  The best way to do this is insert the toothpick through the meat side first.  It goes in much easier than inserting it through the skin side first.

>The Teaser comes with a toothpick in the blister.  Make sure you change the blister toothpick before a new day of fishing.

>DO NOT insert the hook into the strip.  This will affect the roll.

>You DO NOT need to brine the herring strips before using.  You can fish them right out of the package.  Adding a little pickling salt to the water will help toughen the meat and give the scales a shine.

>Placing the hook at the tail of the strip is the best starting point to acheive the proper roll.

>If you are catching lake trout and the other fisherman are catching salmon you need to speed up the roll of the bait.  You can do this by tuning the Teaser or speeding up your boat.

>The Teaser & Strip should revolve at one to two turns per second.

>The Correct type of action is a roll as opposed to a spin.

>Boat speed varies from 1.8 - 3.0 mph.

>Check the roll of the bait on the side of the boat before putting the line down to fish.

If the action seems to be wrong you can do the following to correct it -

>For Slow Acting Strips...

  1. Speed Up
  2. Move the hook forward to within 1/4" of the tail of the lure
  3. Bend the last 1/4" of the plastic lure tail down and away from the strip

>For Fast Acting Strips...

  1. Slow Down
  2. Move the hook back even with the tail end of the strip
  3. Flatten out the plastic tail section of the lure

*Recommended leader lengths for Teasers...

  1. for feeding chinooks.........3 1/2'
  2. for adult chinooks.............5 - 6'
  3. for coho.............2 1/2' - 3 1/2'

Cut Bait can be run both clean or with a flasher

Many people believe you have to run bait & bait alone.  NO YOU DO NOT!!!  Run the bait along with your other favorite lures.
