MYTH OR FACT WHEN USING CUT BAIT
*cut bait stinks - Fact
Fact: all fish stink, proven fact.
*cut bait is messy - You decide Myth or Fact!!
do you think gutting and filleting a fish is messy? how about shooting and gutting a deer? I bet you say hell no you don't have to do any of that to use cut bait. so that is why I say you decide, myth or fact!!
*when fishing with bait you can not use any other lures - Myth
Fact: you can use your other lures right along with cut bait. just tune the teaser head or curve in the whole bait for the trolling speeds you are running your other lures.
*run no more than 4 lines when fishing with bait - Myth
Fact: most fishermen run around six lines with no problems. If running numerous lines don't put down numerous flashers, since you will have problems with tangles.
*you must run flashers whenever running cut bait - Myth
Fact: no you don't. there are conditions (ex: clear water) that running the teaser and bait clean out produce due to the fact that too much flash may spook the fish.
*you have to brine cut bait - Myth
Fact: good quality cut bait does not need brining to be tough. whole herring can be brined with just pickling salt to help toughen.
*cut bait can not be refrozen - Myth
Fact: yes you can refreeze Rhys Davis cut bait (can not speak for other brands). put in a plastic container with water and refreeze. you will know when it is time to throw it out because it will begin to swell and not fit in the teaser lure as easy.
*cut bait takes too much time to learn how to use - Fact & Myth
YES, learning to tune your lure to look like a wounded bait fish does take time.
BUT, once you learn what the roll looks like it takes you no longer to put the bait down and fish than it does with your other lures
*cut bait is the only lure you need to catch fish - Myth
Fact: cut bait is a great way to catch fish (like any real bait is) but giving up the rest of your lures is not necessary. lots of times you will catch fish on artificials and many attribute it to the scent of the cut bait bringing them to the lure.
